Now in its seventh revision, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 builds on the popularity of Samsung’s flagship Android tablet.
This year it’s available in two sizes, with the Tab S7 featuring an 11-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset, USB-C, and dual rear cameras, along with front-facing lens.
The Tab S7 Plus offers even further features, including a 12.4-inch OLED screen that TechRadar notes is “gorgeous”.
Together, these models feature the fastest processors currently available for the Android platform, and according to reviewers, they’re set to give Apple and its iPad a decent run for their money.
The display is considered a standout feature of the new Galaxy Tab range, especially on the S7 Plus, which offers an AMOLED screen. Meanwhile, the S7 has QHD. Both are bright and clear, with the 120Hz refresh rate offering an extra bonus in terms of clarity.
This refresh rate is particularly impressive when paired with the advanced S Pen, which comes included. A higher refresh rate means little to no lag when writing on the tablet with the S Pen, and Samsung notes it’s as close as you’ll currently come to writing on paper.
The S7 and S7 Plus both feature three cameras, with a dual array at the rear comprising a 13MP main lens and a 5MP Ultra-wide lens. On the front, is an 8MP selfie camera.
Both models are available with either 6GB or 8GB RAM, with the option of 128GB or 256GB storage. This can be further expanded to 1TB with a Micro SD card.
Meanwhile that Snapdragon processor mentioned above ensures its responsive and quick. Both devices offer a single USB 3.2 Type-C port which acts as the charging connection but also supports data and further accessories.
As a side note, this port is intended as the headphone jack so there’s no standard 3.5mm headphone jack included.
With the stylus included and a price tag that starts at US$649 (AU$1149) for the S7 and US$849 (AU$1549) for the S7 Plus, the latest Galaxy Tabs are firmly positioned to compete against the iPad and iPad Pro.
The addition of a type cover with trackpad ensures they can be utilised for professional usage, while the sold build and premium display means this is an Android tablet designed for serious use.
Coupled with hefty storage options, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Plus are suited to working on the go, commercial use as a mobile Point of Sale, or as a kiosk.
However, Androids by nature are often limited by the apps that are designed for them. And in this case it’s no different, as TechRadar reflects.
“Android developers just aren’t as interested in optimizing apps for a tablet interface as those developing for iOS seem to be,” they note.
That said, if a premium Android is what you’re looking for, there’s no doubt the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7 Plus definitely hit the mark, carving out a niche as a fresh contender in a lucrative tablet market that’s dominated by iPads.
