New iPad Pro, iMacs and more unveiled at Apple Spring Loaded

April 27, 2021

A new iPad Pro, an iMac in a whole range of colours, and a purple iPhone 12 are among the line-up of products announced by Apple at their recent Spring Loaded event on April 20.

Meanwhile, the Apple TV also received an upgrade and the tech giant also rolled out some super nifty accessories to help people find random things.

So, let’s take a lightning speed tour through all the products revealed during Apple’s first major event for 2021…

The M1 chip

We’ll kick off in Apple’s hardware department, because two of the recent big reveals are powered by a major innovation called the M1 chip.

The M1 will drive both the latest iPad Pro and the latest iMacs, and according to Apple it’s set to revolutionise the processing speed and graphics of both items.

The M1 chip is built around what Apple describes as the world’s fastest Core Processing Unit, and also houses the graphics processor which is where Apple has really focussed some energy.

The upshot is, both the new iMac and iPad Pro will boast some serious processing capability and even more serious graphics speed.

New iPad Pro

The iPad Pro 2021 was among the most anticipated reveals of the day, with many hoping this year’s upgrade would see Apple embrace 5G in their tablet lineup.

Apple did not disappoint. The iPad Pro 2021 is indeed 5G compatible, and there have been some solid further upgrades to the device as well.

This year’s iPad Pro includes a Thunderbolt port, with USB4 support as well as USBC compatibility.

There have been some upgrades to the camera array, with Apple offering a new ultra-wide camera with a 12MP sensor and a 122‑degree field of view.

This camera also couples with machine learning to offer features like panning, which improve video conferencing calls.

The display also received some attention, with the 12.9-inch Pro set to offer a liquid retina XDR display, while the 11-inch model will feature a standard retina display.

The iPad Pro 2021 is available for pre-order from April 30, and if you’re looking for an iPad holder to secure your new device, you can view our range of iPad holders and other tablet holders here.

New iMacs

The new iMac has been rebuilt from the ground-up according to Apple, with a major focus on that M1 chip mentioned earlier.

This year’s version is set to come in a range of six colours to better complement the surrounding environment.

The compact size of the M1 chip allows the iMac to be super slim (11.5mm) and super simple, with a single sheet of glass covering the entire front.

The new display is 24-inches, courtesy of narrowed borders, and it boasts nearly 11.3 million pixels in a 4.5K retina display.

Apple says the iMacs cameras, mics and audio have also been taken to a whole new level, while the iMac wakes almost instantly and apps load “at blazing speed”.

Apple TV 4K

The latest Apple TV will be powered by the A12 bionic chip. That means it will play HDR at a faster framerate, offering higher resolution.

In addition, the Siri remote also received an overhaul. Resembling an old-school iPod, it features a scroll ring, and now has a power button to turn your TV on and off.

Apple AirTags

Among the niftiest reveals of the day was the unveiling of the Apple AirTag. These little buttons can be affixed to your everyday devices, like your car keys, remote control, or even handbag, and users can then access the ‘Find my iPhone’ app to precisely locate their items.

A purple iPhone

In addition to the major overhaul of Apple’s iMacs and iPad Pros, they have also added a new colour option to the iPhone 12 line-up.

Now you’ll be able to buy an iPhone in Purple. It’s available for pre-order now, and will start shipping from April 30.
